About This Piece:

A striking Akan or Fante ceremonial figure from Ghana, combining sculptural form with elaborate regalia in a single commanding presence. The figure is crowned with a tall arched metal repoussé headdress covered in diamond lozenge geometric patterning with a beaded border — deeply consistent with Akan metalwork and royal regalia traditions. The face is small and composed, with heavy-lidded eyes, red lips, and a cross scarification mark on the cheek. Red tassel attachments at either side of the face signal spiritual power and ceremonial rank. A coiled ring neck connects the head to an angular geometric torso finished in a deep blue-black surface, mounted on a circular pedestal base. The Akan and Fante of Ghana produce ceremonial figures used in festivals, funerary contexts, and royal display — objects that embody ancestral authority and the continuity of chiefly power. This piece carries that weight with exceptional presence.
