The Bazaar

A Living Archive of African Material Culture

The Bazaar is Art Continum's marketplace for the objects that carry Africa's living history. Where Browse Art presents the work of contemporary and traditional artists, The Bazaar gathers the broader world of African material culture: the textiles woven for ceremony and trade, the objects shaped by hand across generations, the collectibles and curiosities that map a continent's creativity in three dimensions.

It is a space for collectors, cultural enthusiasts, interior curators, and anyone drawn to the depth and beauty of African craft and heritage.

What You Will Find

The Bazaar brings together a curated selection across several categories:

Traditional Textiles: Kente, kanga, mudcloth, adire, and other woven and printed fabrics rooted in specific cultural traditions and communities across the continent.

Cultural Artifacts: Objects of ceremonial, domestic, and decorative significance, sourced with attention to provenance and cultural context.

Handcrafted Collectibles: Contemporary and traditional craft objects made by artisans whose practice connects to long-standing material traditions.

Vintage and Afro-Centric Items Curated vintage pieces and collectibles that reflect African aesthetic and cultural identity across different periods.

Heritage Objects: Rare and significant objects with documented cultural or historical value, available through our authenticated listings.

Authentic Antiques and Replicas

Not everything in The Bazaar is an original antique, and we are clear about the distinction. Items are sold for their decorative, cultural, and collectible value. Unless a listing is explicitly marked ORIGINAL or AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE, the item is a reproduction, replica, or contemporary craft piece.

Listings marked AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE reflect the vendor's representation of the item's age and origin. Art Continum does not independently verify age or authenticity unless explicitly stated in the listing.

For heritage items of significant value, additional provenance documentation is available on request.

Cultural Respect

The objects in The Bazaar come from living traditions. Many of the textiles, forms, and motifs represented here carry meaning that extends well beyond their appearance. Art Continum approaches the sourcing and presentation of these items with care, and where relevant, with guidance from cultural practitioners.

We ask that collectors who acquire these works do so with the same respect. Owning a piece of African material culture is, in a small way, a participation in the continuity of that culture.
